Wisconsin Waste Tank Rehabilitation

Situation:

A concrete, above-ground receiving tank in Wisconsin had been in continuous service for more than 20 years without being taken offline. Measuring approximately 34 feet in diameter and 16 feet deep, the 3,500-square-foot structure showed significant surface degradation. After the tank cover was removed and the structure was thoroughly cleaned, it became clear that the interior concrete walls required substantial resurfacing. Additionally, new pedestals needed to be formed and poured to support an updated roofing system. The project required a long-term solution that could restore integrity while providing durable chemical and corrosion resistance.

Solution:

Conco Spray Solutions, a Sprayroq Certified Partner, worked closely with engineers and the prime contractor during the design and specification phase to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation approach. The concrete walls were resurfaced with a half-inch to one-inch concrete underlayment application and finished with a broom texture to promote optimal adhesion. Once prepared, the surface was primed and lined using SprayShield Green at a thickness of 250 mils. To address the complexities of the structure, the installation process was carefully sequenced. Walls were lined first using extensive scaffolding to ensure full access and proper application. Once completed, scaffolding was removed to allow for floor preparation and lining. Throughout the process, maintaining the substrate and application environment was critical to ensure coating performance.

Results:
